Privacy

At Naloxone at Home, your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect your information when you use this website and this service. We only collect personal health information when it is needed to deliver the service, and we handle it under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the federal PIPEDA.

What we ask for, and why

Reserving a kit asks for seven things, and nothing else:

• Your address — so the kit can reach you.
• Your name and phone number — the Ontario Naloxone Program requires the name of the person receiving a kit, and a pharmacist has to be able to reach you to give you the training.
• Your email — optional.
• Your date of birth — optional, and asked because the program requires reasonable efforts to record it.
• Your Ontario health card number — optional. You do not need one to get a kit. Where somebody has no card, the ministry publishes a proxy identifier and we use that instead.
• Which delivery exception applies to you — the program requires kits to be handed over at the pharmacy unless one of a short list of reasons applies.
• A preferred time for the pharmacist to call — optional.

Who can see it

Following the ‘need-to-know’ principle, we collect only what is essential and limit access to authorised pharmacy staff involved in your care. We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with anyone outside your circle of care except where the law requires it.

What is on the outside of the parcel

Nothing that says what is inside. No pharmacy name, no product name, no clinical markings — a plain package with your address on it, the same as anything else that arrives in the post.

How long we keep it

The dispensing record — what was given to you, what training was provided, by whom and when — is kept in the pharmacy’s own system and must remain retrievable for Ministry of Health inspection for at least ten years. That is a requirement of the program, not a choice we make. Information collected through this website and not carried into that record is deleted once your reservation is complete.

Web server logs and cookies

When you visit this site, our host records ordinary technical information: IP address, browser and device details, the pages you viewed, and the date and time. This site sets one cookie, and only after you enter an address: it holds that address between step one and step two of the form, it cannot be read by JavaScript, and it is deleted the moment you submit. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no analytics on this site.

Consent

We explain what we are collecting and why, and we obtain your consent in line with PHIPA and PIPEDA. For sensitive information we always ask for clear, explicit permission — which is what the three boxes at the bottom of the reservation form are for. They are selected by default to match the program form, and you can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

Accessing and updating your information

You have the right to see and correct the personal and health information we hold about you. We will confirm your identity before making changes or releasing anything. To make a request, email info@naloxoneathome.ca.

How we keep it secure

We use encryption in transit, access controls, and audited pharmacy systems. Reservation records are stored privately and are not readable without authorisation. Staff are trained in privacy law and only authorised staff can see your information.

Complaints

If you think your privacy has not been respected, tell us first and we will investigate. You can also complain to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, who oversees PHIPA, at ipc.on.ca.

We may update this policy from time to time and will change the revision date when we do. Last updated 9 September 2026.
